use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1613848293481{padding-bottom: 10px !important;}&#8221; el_class=&#8221;uppercase&#8221;][vc_column_text]We cover all the Tech Insights and IHS \/ S&amp;P Global bill of materials per device below in both text and graphic formats, here are the average costs of building an iPhone:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Estimated iPhone material costs ranged from <strong>$156.2<\/strong> to <strong>$450.50 <\/strong>(model dependant)<\/li>\n<li>Retail prices of these entry-level iPhones ranged from <strong>$399<\/strong> to<strong> $1099<\/strong> (2007-2020)<\/li>\n<li>The difference between material cost and the retail price ranged from <strong>27.6%<\/strong> to <strong>44.63%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Projected markup ranged between <strong>124.06%<\/strong> to <strong>260.17%<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Apple axed some profits in 2019 models: <\/strong>The iPhone with the most expensive estimated materials cost is the iPhone 11 Pro Max 64GB at <strong>$450.50<\/strong>, which is<strong> 35.49%<\/strong> of its retail cost of <strong>$1099.\u00a0<\/strong>The iPhone with the highest estimated materials cost in proportion to the original RRP was also the iPhone 11 Pro Max 64GB at <strong>$450.50<\/strong>\u00a0material cost, which is <strong>44.63%<\/strong> of its retail cost <strong>$1,099.\u00a0<\/strong>So, this data shows that the 11 Pro Max had the least % margin since the original iPhone according to bill of material data.<\/p>\n<p>When the second model was released, the iPhone 3G, the estimated bill of materials was <strong>$51 less<\/strong> than the original, and the phone retailed for <strong>$100<\/strong> more which doubled Apple\u2019s markup. This was, in fact, the lowest percentage of the retail price at <strong>27.76%<\/strong>, later on, the iPhone SE was the only device to be released that was actually cheaper material-wise at <strong>$156.2.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;4645&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; image_hovers=&#8221;false&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The costs are representative of parts and do not account for research and development, logistics, marketing, and other general business costs.
